Global level<\/h2>\n

Progress towards achieving the 2030 Agenda goals is measured through sustainable development indicators. The list of global indicators<\/a> was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in July 2017. In 2017, the final set of indicators consisted of 244 indicators, of which 232 were unique.<\/p>\n

A comprehensive revision was carried out in March 2020, in which the number of indicators was increased to 247 (by 3), of which 231 were unique. The last comprehensive revision of the indicators was in 2025. The final set of indicators <\/a>consists of 251 indicators, of which 234 are unique.<\/p>\n

Data<\/a> per country are published on the UN website, in the global database, along with metadata<\/a>. SDG Indicators Database provided Country Profile<\/a> for either country.<\/p>\n

Indicators are an essential tool for monitoring progress towards the fulfilment of the 2030 Agenda goals, as well as for following up and monitoring national development and assessing the effectiveness of the measures taken.<\/p>\n

The indicators are broken down into three groups according to criteria<\/a>, whether there is an established methodology for the calculation of data and whether there are data for a given indicator.
\nTier Classification Criteria:
\nTier I: There is an established methodology and also data available to the indicator.
\nTier II: Established methodology but data have not been available yet.
\nTier III: The methodology has been still developing so far and there have not been data available for the indicators. Currently, the global indicator framework no longer contains any Tier III indicators.<\/p>\n

The following table compares the number of indicators in Tier after comprehensive revisions (2020, 2025) with the number of indicators in the original list (2017):<\/p>\n
